Ryu
Hadoken, Shoryuken, Tatsumaki. The fundamentals teacher.
Should you main Ryu?
Ryu is Street Fighter 6's fundamental shotoclone: hadoken controls space, shoryuken reverses meaties, and his Drive Rush conversions teach the modern neutral. Classic or Modern both work; Classic gives more confirm depth, Modern simplifies special execution while you learn footsies.
He wins rounds with patient fireball games, whiff punish cr.MK into confirm, and Drive Pressure when he earns the advantage. He loses when he autopilots fireballs into Perfect Parry or jumps predictably into anti-airs.
Main Ryu to learn SF6 itself — spacing, Drive gauge spending, and wake-up options — before specializing into weirder characters. Lab a basic confirm, a safe jump setup, and a Drive Rush sequence. Watch when opponents start Perfect Parrying your fireballs and mix in walks and throws.
On offense, vary throw, meaty, and shimmy once people respect your meaty button. On defense, delay wake-up buttons against fuzzy mixups and save Drive Reversal for situations where a full invincible reversal would lose to a safe jump. Record a simple punish and practice it until it is boring.
